searching for birds who call Hopkinton State Park their home. Top off the
morning with a light camp style breakfast. Pre-registration required by
Monday July 31st. All ages welcome. August 2 Catch the summer reading BUG. Read about BUGS! Hunt for BUGS! Eat a BUG! If you haven't heard about BUGS at the library, BUZZ in for some FUN. On Wednesday, July 19 at 2 PM learn how to make costumes from everyday "stuff". Holly Cleeland will present GLUE AND GO COSTUMES FOR KIDS. BEE one of the lucky audience members to take home one of Holly's creations. One costume will be a BUG. Each week enter a BUG HUNT RAFFLE or write a poem during the BUGGALOO POETRY SLAM. Drop in to make a BUGGY craft on Wednesday, July 12, July 26, and August 2 from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. Join us on Friday August 11 at 1:30 PM for a musical concert by Stephan Baird. Stephan's "bag full of surprises" was funded by an Arts Lottery Grant from the Hopkinton and Massachusetts Cultural Councils. Don't miss the BUGGAPALUZZA on Friday, August 18 at 1:00 PM. Raffle prizes will be awarded; reading certificates will be presented; BUGGY POEMS will be read; BUG MASKS will be shown; BUGS will be eaten. Come join us in a fun, supportive environment geared towards assisting you in feeling empowered in the outdoors. The August 3rd program includes activities such as tent and camp set-up, shelter building, hiking and many others. Women ages 14 and up, but all ages welcome. August 4 Hopkinton State Park - "Let's Talk Turtle" 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Meet at the Upper Beach bathhouse. What animal has scales, long claws, a hard or soft shell, and is cold blooded? If you guessed a turtle, you're right! Learn about the habitat, range, and life cycle of the ten species of pond and mud turtles native to Massachusetts on Friday, August 4th. Great for ages 5-12, but all ages are welcome. August 4 Hopkinton State Park - "Special Event: Summer Sky Star Party" 9:00 pm - 11:00 pm @ the Boat Ramps. On August 4th Hopkinton State Park welcomes the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics as we explore the summer skies through both large and small amateur telescopes. Join us as we go to the moon to view some of the Apollo landing sites. Other targets include the moons of Jupiter and the hidden mysteries of the Summer Triangle. Classes on how to learn some of the brighter summer constellations will also be held. Great for all ages. August 5 Have fun for a good cause. Help homeless and street kids 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm @ "The Rack" 24 Clinton Street (next to Faneuil Hall). Featuring MIX 98.5's Fast Freddy & DJ Brian Rochell. Tickets are $15 at the door. August 5 Hopkinton Parks and Recreation presents Drive - In Movie Night at dark @ the field behind Doyle Gym at the Middle School August 5 The Hopkinton Parks and Recreation Department is having a Drive - In Movie Night. Come to the field behind the Doyle Gym at the Middle School with your blankets and chairs and see Nanny McPhee. This PG rated movie adapted from the Nurse Matilda books, will be shown on a 13' x 17' giant screen with a 2000 Watt sound system starting when it gets dark. Oscar winning actress Emma Thompson stars as Nanny McPhee who uses magical powers to try to tame a group of 7 miss-behaved children. These kids have gone through 17 previous nannies and the results are funny. This even is free and Parks and Recreation will be selling popcorn and other refreshments to help defray the cost. August 8 Hopkinton State Park - "Junior Rangers" 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm @ the Boathouse. Become a Massachusetts State Forest and Park Junior Ranger, the youngest group of forest protectors in the state! This program includes 4 weeks of outdoor adventure, at the end of which Junior Rangers will receive his/her own certificate and badge. Junior Rangers commit to every Tuesday from 1-3:00 pm, starting on August 8th. Outdoor exploration includes orienteering, pond exploration, animal tracking, and much more. Pre-registration encouraged, but not required. For kids ages 6-10. August 10 Hopkinton State Park - "What Does an Owl Eat" 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm @ the end of Dogwood near the bridge to the dam. Owls swallow their prey whole, including fur and bones. However, they are not able to digest these materials so they regurgitate them. Each pellet often contains a skeleton of the animal the owl ate, usually mice, gophers and voles. Come join us on August 10th as we dissect these pellets and try to reconstruct the skeletons to uncover what was for dinner. Great for kids ages 8-12, but all ages welcome. Is it a flying saucer? No, silly! It is a raptor. Join us on August 11th as we welcome the Blue Hills Trailside Museum and their special birds of prey such as owls and hawks. Learn why some birds are called raptors, and what it means to be a bird of prey. All ages welcome.
August 13 American Legion Post 343, 198 Church Ave., Northbridge Mass will be holding the 2nd Annual Charity Car Show on August 13, 2006 The Rain date is August 20, 2006. All Cars will be on the grass. 60 different trophy classes or awards. Gates open at 8:30 AM, registration from 9-12 AM, judging from 12-2 PM, trophy ceremony at 3 PM. $10.00 registration per show car, $5.00 for your 2nd car. August 16 The MOMS Club of Hopkinton is a support group for mothers of young children in Hopkinton. We offer playgroups, kids' activities, moms' activities, service projects and many other ways to get to know other moms in town. What is a macro-invertebrate? Why is it important to you? On Monday August 21st, this program will introduce you to the sights and sounds of the amazing world of frogs, toads, salamanders, and those funny things which are called invertebrates. This fun hour will be filled with games, pond exploration and a story about silly looking creatures living just below the pond’s surface. Great for ages 5 and up, but all ages welcome.
