program "Women in the Outdoors" 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, meet @ the Boat House.
Are you a woman who has always wanted to fish? How about feeling
comfortable building a campfire? Come join us in a fun, supportive
environment geared towards assisting you in feeling empowered in the
outdoors. This program includes activities such as outdoor cooking,
gardening for wildlife, orienteering and many others. Women ages 14 and up,
but all ages welcome. July 7 Hopkinton State Park program "Fungus Among Us" 9:00 am - 10:00 am, meet @ the Contact Station. Join us as we explore the forest floor and walls searching for wild mushrooms on July 7th. This program is for the beginning mushroom enthusiast and expert alike. Hope for rain the day before and we might find some elusive jelly fungi! All ages welcome. July 7 Hopkinton State Park program "Pond Adventure" 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, meet @ the Main Beach House. What is a macro-invertebrate? Why is it important to you? On Friday July 7th, this program will introduce you to the sights and sounds of the amazing world of frogs, toads, salamanders, and those funny things which are called invertebrates. This fun hour will be filled with games, pond exploration and a story about silly looking creatures living just below the pond’s surface. Great for ages 5 and up, but all ages welcome. July 10 - 14 Christian Bible Celebration 9:00 am - 12:00 pm @ First Congregational Church. Crafts, Recreation, Bible story time, snack, music, drama and fun! For all kids completing K - 6th grades. Learn about the habitat, range, and life cycle of the ten species of pond and mud turtles native to Massachusetts. Great for ages 5-12, but all ages are welcome. July 12 Catch the summer reading BUG. Read about BUGS! Hunt for BUGS! Eat a BUG! If you haven't heard about BUGS at the library, BUZZ in for some FUN. On Wednesday, July 19 at 2 PM learn how to make costumes from everyday "stuff". Holly Cleeland will present GLUE AND GO COSTUMES FOR KIDS. BEE one of the lucky audience members to take home one of Holly's creations. One costume will be a BUG. Each week enter a BUG HUNT RAFFLE or write a poem during the BUGGALOO POETRY SLAM. Drop in to make a BUGGY craft on Wednesday, July 12, July 26, and August 2 from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. If you were stranded in the middle of the wilderness, could you survive? Come learn ways to survive different climates, conditions and environments in this jam packed program. Walk away from this program feeling confident in your ability to win the million dollars on ‘Survivor’! Topics covered include orienteering, shelter building, safety in the outdoors, ‘MacGyver’ ideas, and much more. Ages 13 and above welcome. July 13 Hopkinton State Park program "Natures Games" 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm, meet @ the Main Beach Boathouse. Want to have some fun? Want to learn about the outdoors? Spend an hour making friends and learning about how things we do every day affect the natural world around us. This fun, active program will be held frequently throughout the summer. Great for ages 8-12, but all ages welcome. July 14 Hopkinton State Park program "What does an Owl Eat" 10:00 pm - 11:30 pm, meet @ the Main Beach Boathouse. Owls swallow their prey whole, including fur and bones. However, they are not able to digest these materials so they regurgitate them. Each pellet often contains a skeleton of the animal the owl ate, usually mice, gophers and voles. Come join us as we dissect these pellets and try to reconstruct to uncover what was for dinner. Great for kids ages 8-12, but all ages welcome. July 17 Hopkinton State Park program "Art in the Park" 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, meet @ the Main Beach House. Explore nature through art! The outdoors provides many resources to be creative. Learn to express your artistic side using local natural discoveries. Various activities will be held throughout the summer such as pet rocks, nature collages, mud painting and flower pressing. These fun hours will be filled with games, activities and a story about cool things that live in the Hopkinton woods. Come prepared on Monday July 17th to have some fun and be creative. (Please wear clothes to do crafts in.) Great for ages 5-12, but all ages welcome. July 18 Hopkinton State Park program "Pond Adventure" 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, meet @ the Main Bathhouse. July 27 Hopkinton State Park program "Earthtunes" 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, meet in the field next to the Main Beach Bathhouse. Earthtunes is a unique and engaging blend of music, puppets and participation. This special event performance will include a variety of musical styles with combinations of piano, guitars, mandoline and viola. Barbara Herson, Steve Mayone, and Jim Gambino will provide a lively musical program that teaches about our planet’s environment, solid waste and recycling, water conservation, wildlife and endangered species while placing a strong emphasis on caring for our environment. Earthtunes inspires children and adults to take an active role in caring for our planet. Come prepared to get involved, learn something, and have a GREAT time. July 28 Hopkinton State Park program "Let's Get Lost" 10:00 am - 11:30 am, meet @ the Main Beach Bathhouse. So…you have a map, and you have a compass, but do you know how to use them if you needed to? Orienteering is often called the “thinking sport” because it involves map reading and decision-making in addition to a great workout! Come join us on July 28th and become experts at reading a map and using a compass to find your way! Ages 10 and up. July 28 Come join us as Hopkinton State Park welcomes the unique traveling Forest and Parks on Wheels bus. This special vehicle is filled with so many things to see and do as they tour the state of Massachusetts. They will be here from 12:00-3:00 pm, but will be hosting several programs during that time. Come prepared to run around, have fun and learn so many cool things! All ages welcome. |
