November 1 The Hopkinton Senior Center is ramping up for a new fundraiser that will help supply money for senior programs such as Wellness, Nutrition, and other health related programs. This fundraiser will also help third world countries improve with their communication capabilities. The program is called "Cell Phone Recycling". The Senior Center will collect unused cell phones and ship them to the National Council on Aging. The Council arranges for the phones to be refurbished and sold at minimal cost to third world countries. It is a win/ win situation where Hopkinton senior citizens receive money for each phone and third world citizens receive
reconditioned cell phones. The senior center is asking businesses, schools, companies, town offices and clubs, religious groups, churches to be partners in collecting the phones at their sites. The senior center will supply the boxes, posters, and publicity information to use for newsletters, and will collect the cell phones at each site. So far, Hopkinton's Senior Center, Women's club, Garden Club, Lion's
club, Masonic Lodge, the Public Library, Collella's Supermarket, St. Paul's Episcopal and the Woodville Baptist Churches, the Hopkinton Post office and Hopkinton Town Hall have come on board as collection centers. The official kick off for the Cell Phone Recycling campaign is November 1, 2006 but most sites will be collecting before November. If you know of or are associated with a business or group that can help us with this worthy cause, can you contact Carol at the email below? Can you help us by publicizing our campaign at your business meetings, in your newsletters, emails to members and in being a collection site? We would appreciate it! For information about the fundraiser, or to get involved, contact Carol Mecagni at the Hopkinton Senior Center at 508-497-9730, or
