Judith Ferrara (www.paletteandpen.com) returned to practicing painting after
nearly four decades of being obsessed by art. In her presentation, Judith
will describe the directions in which her decision has taken her. She will
also read her poetry, as well as show examples of reciprocal paintings and
poems that form her manuscript,
Reciprocity. Judith’s paintings will be on display from April 3rd-10th.

The event, which is sponsored by Hopkinton Drug Store, will be held at 11:00 AM on the Town Common. The Easter Egg Hunt is for Hopkinton pre-school to 2nd grade children. Please bring your own basket or bag to collect the candy and "Special Prize Eggs". We ask parents not to pick up eggs prior to the start of the event. April 7 The MSO proudly announced a partnership today with the Hopkinton Athletic Association in kicking off the 111th running of The Boston Marathon, the country’s oldest and finest! Hopkinton, the official starting point of the Boston Marathon, will begin “Marathon Week” with a special Pop’s Concert presented by the Metrowest Symphony “Boston Marathon” Orchestra. The concert will take place in Hopkinton High School's beautiful Auditorium on Saturday, April 7th, 7:30PM Hopkinton High School, 90 Hayden Rowe Street, Hopkinton, MA. April 10 Enter Stage Left Theater Workshop Inc. will once again be hosting two performances of the puppet show Cinderella, A Woodland Fairy Princess on Tuesday, April 10. The first performance will be held at 10:00 a.m. and the second at 1:30 p.m. Both performances are geared to preschool and kindergarten children and will be held at the ESL studio at 30 Main Street in Hopkinton. Admission to each show is $5.00 per person, with a maximum of $18 per family. The 45-minute puppet shows, which feature hand puppets and a fanciful tree stage, will be presented by Deborah Costine of the popular Gerwick Puppets. She has performed professionally throughout New England since 1975 at popular venues such as the Peabody Essex Museum, the Mark Twain Museum, and Boston First Night. She also performs monthly at the Puppet Showplace Theater in Brookline, and at numerous schools and libraries. April 17 - 21 The fifth annual Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) National Leadership and Training Conference, hosted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will be held in Providence, RI April 17 – 21. More than 500 MRC leaders from across the country will attend the conference, designed to better equip MRC units with the tools they need to effectively start and sustain their unit through partnerships. “The upcoming MRC National Leadership and Training Conference is a great service to the local leaders of this organization. Not only will they gain greater knowledge and a better understanding of public health and emergency preparedness issues, but they will also share best practices and lessons learned with their colleagues,” said Rear Admiral Kenneth Moritsugu, M.D., M.P.H, acting surgeon general. The agenda includes presentations from several government officials, including the Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral John O. Agwunobi, M.D., M.P.H; Dr. Moritsugu; and Rajeev Venkayya, M.D., special assistant to the president for biological defense policy. Also participating in this are experts in sustainability and training, building partnerships, and public and disaster behavioral health. Liisa Jackson of the Region 4A MRC Coordinator will attend this year’s conference. Liisa Jackson said“This is an event I look forward to attending each year. MRC Leaders with so many different experiences, backgrounds, challenges, and successes will be coming together to share and learn. Being able to take the knowledge I gain back to my MRC volunteers helps to make us an even stronger and better prepared community,” MRC units are based locally and direct programs comprised of medical, public health, and other civilian volunteers using their specialized skills and training to provide additional surge capacity and response support in their communities during emergencies. Throughout the year, MRC volunteers offer education and prevention services to improve the public health infrastructure of their neighborhoods and communities. The MRC, Citizen Corps, AmeriCorps, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), Fire Corps, Senior Corps, and the Peace Corps are program partners within the President's USA Freedom Corps, which promotes volunteerism and service throughout the United States. There are approximately 640 MRC units with more than 120,000 volunteers across the nation and 2,652 MRC volunteers in Region 4A, strengthening the public health. Gurney’s smash hit about a bittersweet relationship between two people who have been friends since they were very young. What makes this performance especially moving is that the two actors, Paul Champlin and Dawn Anderson, have been friends off-stage since they were in elementary school, and so bring an emotional understanding to the roles that only life-long friends can. The performances will take place at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21 at ESL’s newly expanded studio at 30 Main Street in Hopkinton. The DPW and the Hopkinton police have identified areas to be cleaned up on April 21 in honor of Earth Day. SPEAC will coordinate the groups wishing to help and assign an area to be cleaned. We invite school clubs, scouts, athletic teams, church groups, neighborhoods, and anyone who wants to help join the town for clean up. Groups will clean from 8:30-10:30AM. SPEAC will provide donuts at a Hopkinton High School parking lot at the end to say thank you! Cans that are collected during clean up may be donated to Community Fun Clean Up towards snacks for next year. office hour for the residents of Hopkinton to discuss issues of importance

It is our hope that after attending "It Takes A Village” Open Circle, parents will feel more confident and comfortable talking with other parents, youth, and most importantly, their own children about issues in our town. It is also the goal of this group to begin with Open Circle as a “kick off” to other future events to come. Every parent who has a child attending middle school or high school is invited to attend and should find this to be a very unique and important opportunity to learn more about the issues and questions of parents and teens in our community. This event will take place from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Hopkinton High School Cafeteria. Parents are invited to arrive at 6:15. Light refreshments will be provided. April 26, 27, 28 The Hopkinton Garden Club will be showcasing floral arrangements interpreting the art at the CAA standard art show at the farmhouse. Last year's pairing of the two clubs was a big success, and the lovely, bright floral arrangements highlighting the winning art pieces were well received. April 27, 28 Hopkinton Middle School Drama Club presents The Sound of Music 7:00 pm @ Middle School Auditorium. April 28 Folk singer/songwriter Chris Connors, whose music offers reflections on complexities and joys of relationships, spirituality, loss, and rebirth with unusual depth and wisdom, will perform at the Enter Stage Left Coffeehouse at 8:00 p.m. on April 28. With folk and spiritual roots, her songs have found enthusiastic audiences in both the folk and women’s music communities.
