Hopkinton Programs. September 1,8 ESL hosts "Your a Good Man Charlie Brown" 8:00 pm @ St. John's Parish Hall. Tickets $12 Adults, $10 Students and Seniors. September 2 Please join the Hopkinton Veteran’s Celebration Committee on Sunday September 2, 2007 as we join thousands of communities across America for a remembrance ceremony at the Reverand King Memorial on Mayhew street in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The Committee is hosting a “Sunday Taps Vigil” starting at 7pm. The ceremony will consist of a short tribute to American soldiers, veterans and their families and is expected to last 15 minutes. The ceremony will include the sounding of the 24 hauntingly beautiful notes of “Taps”. “Taps” traditionally serves two important purposes. At military outposts around the world it is played in the evening to signal the time for quiet, rest and reflection after a day of duty. It is also mandated by the Department of Defense to be sounded live by a bugler, if possible, at the funeral of each and every American veteran as a final tribute to that individual veteran’s honorable time of service to his or her country. An average of over 1,600 American veterans are laid to rest each day. Hopkinton has held this ceremony, on the first Sunday each month, since it was initiated in March 2004 by the national non-profit organization Bugles Across America. Since the ceremony was first proposed over 1,500 communities across America as well as in Canada and several other countries now participate. September 13 CAA Women's Art Forum presents Amanda Maffei 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm @ 98 Hayden Rowe Street. Artistic expression has been a close companion to Amanda for life. Whether doodling, making mobiles, writing stories, playing piano, singing, creating songs, painting, Amanda seeks deeper meaning and understanding through art. It feels natural for being human. Come explore with Amanda how art accompanies her in life thus far at the Women’s Art Forum on Thursday, September 13 at 7pm. In so doing perhaps explore and share some of your own art accompaniments. September 14,15,21,22 Enter Stage Left Theater will be presenting Speak My Heart, an evening of songs from Broadway musicals, on September 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 8:00 p.m. at ESL studios at 30 Main Street in Hopkinton. ESL’s own private vocal instructors Mark DiCampo and Lyndie Laramore will perform fully staged selections from Jason Robert Brown’s hit Broadway musicals Songs for a New World, Parade, and Last Five Years. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors. September 20 Esme YC Disch - "Natural Expresions" Art Exhibit opening rececption 6:30 pm @ CAA building. Art Exhibit - September 20 - October 20. Esme has been a fan favorite at the CAA Juried Art Show over the past few years winning many prizes including last years Viewer’s Choice Award. This exhibit will include abstract and representational watercolors, mixed media and monotypes from the past five years leading up to the current monotype series of nests and grasses. Through her watercolors, mixed media works and recent monotypes Esme YC Disch expresses her feelings about nature and the spirit through both representational and abstract imagery. In this way she helps preserve her impressions for the future and capture the magic of nature. Disch states, “I was drawn to the natural environment and often mourn the demise of pristine forested acreage for development, often holding the last vestiges of beauty and mystery in my mind and imagination. I wish for my paintings to visually communicate evocative feelings of reverence to the infinite spirit within all things natural." September 24 The Hopkinton PTA would like to invite you to a special program for families new to our schools. On September 24, 2007, we are hosting “An Orientation to Hopkinton Schools”; a program especially for new families. This program is designed for parents, and is presented in conjunction with the Hopkinton PTA’s first General Meeting of the year. The goal of this HPTA program is to share information about the school system and the community resources available to families. Time will be allotted for your questions and discussion. Several informative brochures and handouts will be provided. We hope this will make your family’s transition into the Hopkinton school system easier, and help you take advantage of all our community has to offer! We would like to make you feel right at home! The program will be held from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Library of the Elmwood Elementary School at 14 Elm St. Immediately following the New Parent Orientation will be the HPTA’s General Meeting from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. at the Elmwood School cafeteria. The General Meeting will introduce you to the HPTA, as well as provide opportunities to volunteer within your child’s school. For additional information about the Hopkinton Public Schools, please visit the website at www.hopkinton.k12.ma.us. We know that you will find both programs informative and helpful in getting your school year off to a great start! Again, this meeting is for parents, so please be sure to make child care arrangements. September 26 SPEAC hosts Conversation with Dr. Kirsten Esposito 7:00 pm @ Hopkinton Middle School Library.
