Boy Scout Troop 4 of Hopkinton will be providing a Christmas tree pickup and
recycling service for residents of Hopkinton. The cost is $5.00 for trees
under 8 feet and $10.00 for trees over 8 feet. Scouts will pick up trees on
Saturday, January 5th, 12th, and 19th. To
request a pick-up, please go to trees.troop4hopkinton.org or call (508)
293-6396 and leave your name, address, date for pick up, and tree height.
Please make your request by Thursday of the week chosen for pick-up. Trees
should be put curbside by 9AM along with payment in an envelope attached to
the tree (Ziploc bags work best!). Payment can be made in cash or check
payable to “Troop 4 Hopkinton.” Please no plastic bags around the tree.
January 8 Join Us For A College Funding Workshop Presented by Ron Foisy and HPTA Parent Programs 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Middle School Lecture Hall. This free workshop is back by popular demand and full of great practical information on how to navigate the college funding system, including tips like: Ways to get thousands of dollars for the college of your choice, even if you make a good living, How to double or even triple your eligibility for financial aid, How to pick colleges that give the best financial aid packages, The 5 greatest myths about college funding, and many other inside college funding secrets, LAST YEAR WAS A SELLOUT! January 12 The HPTA Perfect Dress event from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at Hopkinton High School. There's still time to donate your dresses and accessories. Your donations are tax deductible and all proceeds benefit the HPTA. Donations are being accepted anytime at the Children's Orchard in Milford and Westborough. Then be sure to join us for the event and peruse racks of hundreds of new and gently-used stylish dresses to find a perfect dress for any semi-formal or formal occasion at prices everyone can afford: $20-$40 per dress. There will also be accessories, such as shoes, wraps, jewelry and purses, for sale. Consultants will be on site for alterations, make-up and jewelry, and there will be raffles for jewelry, flowers, limo, make-up, nails and more. January 12,13,18,19 Enter Stage Left Theater will be presenting Annie Jr,. a shortened version of the popular Broadway show, on January 12, 18 and 19 at 7:00 p.m. and January 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hopkinton Middle School Auditorium. The 90-minute production features more than 35 young local actors from ages 7 to 13, including a prologue done by children in grades K- 2. A special “backstage pass” offering a backstage tour and personal interviews with the cast will be available for the January 13 show. Tickets are $10 for general admission to all shows, and $15 for a ticket with the backstage pass. Tickets are available via ESL’s website, www.enterstagelefttheater.com. “This is a delightful version of the famous story of the big-hearted orphan, and includes all the favorite songs from the Broadway production,” said Kelly Grill, a co-founder of ESL. “We’re also very excited about the special backstage pass we are offering for the January 13 matinee, which will literally provide a ‘behind the scenes’ tour of what goes into the making of a production like this, as well as an opportunity to meet the cast one-on-one.” January 12 Emerald City will be playing at Speakers Night Club (19 Weed Street, Downtown Marlboro - right behind City Hall) from 9:15pm until around 1am range. We will be playing vintage hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's and today, including songs by The Who, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Allman Brothers, Clapton, Beatles, Toto, and many more... January 15 Hopkinton’s Special Education Advisory Council (SPEAC) will be hosting a presentation by the Federation for Children with Special Needs on Transitions from High School at 6:30 p.m. at the Hopkinton Middle School Library. (Snow date is January 22.) This workshop will address the timetables and concerns many families face when a special needs child moves from High School to the “real world.” Parents of children age 14 and older and encouraged to attend this free discussion. Based in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, SPEAC is made up of parents and guardians working to ensure all children with special needs are educated effectively. January 19 In conjunction with the YMCA of the USA’s Activate America Initiative and the No Child Left Inside Act (currently being reviewed in congress) the MetroWest YMCA at Hopkinton will be offering a new program that affords families the opportunity to get out and play. Each month for the next year the YMCA will offer a fun, seasonal based activity that will allow for the entire family to step away from the norm and enjoy the season. The activity for January 19th will be snow forts. All activities will be held on Saturdays from 10:00am until 1:00pm. Contact Jason Marker to pre- register for this program. The cost of the program is $10.00 per family for YMCA members and $15.00 per family for potential members.
