May 2,3,4 Hopkinton Middle School Drama Club presents "Guys and Dolls" @ Middle School Auditorium. Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students/seniors and may be purchased in the Middle School office or at the door.
May 2 16th Annual John P. Garrahan Community Prayer breakfast 7:30 pm @ Sheraton Hotel in Framingham. Laura Strickland, a junior at Hopkinton High, has been selected to give the annual speech on behalf of all award winners from the MetroWest’s 11 area high schools. The event should be well attended. Cheryl Elder from HHS could probably give you some background on this award which is given annually to a junior from HHS.

May 10 Charles River Tennis Club, located in Medway, MA will be hosting an open house at it's location on Massasoit Road. Tennis players from all the local communities are invited to come between the hours of 9am to 2pm on Saturday, May 10th with Sunday, May 11th, as the rain date. There will be an opportunity for you to try our four green clay courts, meet and play with our members and have refreshments. The club is accessible off of Village St., to Charles River Road and then onto Massasoit. CRTC is a not for profit tennis club that is run by it's members for it's members. May 10 Stamp Our Hunger day in Hopkinton, an event held every year by our post office to benefit the Hopkinton Food Pantry. Postal workers will pick up a bag of non-perishable food, toiletries and/or paper goods at your mailbox during their normal delivery on Saturday and deliver them directly to the Hopkinton Food Pantry. This is the last drive to benefit the Hopkinton Food Pantry until November, so the collection needs to last us through the summer and fall months -- a big challenge, to say the least!
May 10 Singer, songwriter and musician Steve Spector returns to the Enter Stage Left Coffeehouse at 8:00 pm. Spector's musical background includes being the lead guitarist and singer for classic rock bands Anthology and Hot Acoustics. The ESL Coffeehouse Series takes place at Enter Stage Left Theater Workshop's intimate studio at 30 Main Street in Hopkinton. Tickets are $10.00 per person.
May 13 Tune in to HCAM-TV on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. for a live HopNews-sponsored Round Table discussion between the candidates for Selectmen, and host Robert Foster, in a relaxed spontaneous studio setting. Mr. Foster's work on the Board of Appeals is testimony to his judicious and thoughtful approach to understanding things. In addition, Mr. Foster's background as an engineer has molded his no-nonsense approach to solving problems. People wishing to be part of the studio audience should arrive at 6:45 p.m.
May 15,16,17 Hopkinton’s Annual Rummage Sale will take place at the Senior Center, 28 Mayhew St., on Thursday and Friday, May 15 & 16, from 9 to 7 and Saturday from 9 to noon. This is the Senior Center’s largest fundraiser to benefit the transportation and nutrition programs that are not funded in the town budget. It is because of the public support for events like this that the Senior Center is able to provide a top notch program at a reasonable cost to taxpayers. There is a huge selection of clothing for all ages and shapes, children’s toys, furniture, linens, books and almost anything you can think of. The sale provides a great opportunity for families to save money on things they need while recycling things others no longer need. Lunch will be served on Thursday (hot dogs and beans) and Friday (hot turkey sandwiches). The cost is $4.00 which includes drink and dessert. If you want to eat at the first seating, please make reservations. Walk-ins are welcome from 12-1. The Thrift Shop will also be open, offering quality antiques as well as gift items, and the greenhouse crew will be selling their own plants, including 13 kinds of well-started tomato plants.

The Hopkinton Artists Guild is sponsored by the Hopkinton Cultural Arts Association (CAA). May 18 A benefit concert will be held 7:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 120 West Main Street, Westboro, to raise funds for MAPA (Mission A Paraiso Ahora!). MAPA is a mission of mutual ministry formed by United Methodists and a church located in Paraiso, a small impoverished town in the southern province of Barahona, Dominican Republic. The concert is a joint effort by musicians from Grace United Methodist, Hopkinton, and First United Methodist Church, Westboro. The concert will include music by adult and youth hand bell choirs, vocal choirs, vocal soloists, marimba, flute, piano and harp. Refreshments will be served following the concert. Both churches have worked on fundraising towards student scholarships, teachers’ salaries and continuing education, medical supplies, school supplies, and text books for the tuition free church-run school.
May 18 Hopkinton High School Department of Music presents Spring "Pops" Concert 2:00 pm @ High School Athletic Center. Featuring: The Bands, Choruses and String Ensemble. Tickets are $5.00 and a $20.00 family maximum. Seniors are free. Light refreshments are included in the ticket price.

May 21 Please join us at 11:00 at the Senior Center to learn more about the Circuit Breaker and Stimulus Tax program. Many seniors who qualify for one or both have not taken part in the programs. The Circuit Breaker is also available to renters. Ann Irons, CPA, will host the presentation. It’s a very simple and you should take advantage of these programs which were put in place to help our seniors.

May 23 Hopkinton Historical Society holds there Annual Meeting and Potluck Dinner at the Fellowship Hall of St. Paul's Episcopal Church (61 Wood Street), at 6 pm. Please join us for this annual social event and business meeting! We will be providing updates on the HHS building (which is getting ever closer to re-opening), the archives, and planned events for the coming year. Please plan to bring your favorite casserole dish, salad, or dessert item to share. We'll supply drinks, utensils, coffee, etc. There's no admission fee, and please feel free to invite a guest, neighbor, or family member. Business meeting proceedings and elections, however, are limited to paid members of the Society. Besides a great social gathering, this meeting provides an opportunity for all members to help chart a course for the Society. Please plan to join us if you're available and able to attend.
May 23 The community is invited to attend a benefit concert for the Relay for Life (American Cancer Society). The show is organized completely by High School students. Doors open at 7:30 and the show starts at 8:00 in the High School Gymnasium. The production involves fifteen high school students representing all four grades who will be performing pop, rock, and jazz music. Tickets are sold at the door and are $5 for students and $10 for adults.
May 26 Hopkinton will hold its annual Memorial Day commemorative events. At the town’s nine military veteran memorial locations wreaths will be placed, prayers and readings will be read and echo bugle taps will be played. A parade from Mayhew Street to the town common will include boy scouts, girl scouts, brownies, cub scouts, police, fire department, veterans and others. Events at the Gazebo will include short speeches, the band and other tributes to the members of our armed forces both alive and departed. Events start at the Evergreen Cemetery in Woodville at 9:45am. At 10:30 the numerous veteran memorial locations on Mayhew Street will each be honored. The parade to the Gazebo will start at 11:30 and end at noon with the traditional raising of the flag together with the singing of the National Anthem. In the event of inclement weather the program will be held at the Saint John’s Parish Hall at 11:00am. All are invited to attend and to participate.
May 29,30,31 The Senior Center gardeners will hold their 2nd annual Plant Sale from 9:00am-2:00pm on the patio behind the building. There will be a large variety of annuals and vegetables, including 7 varieties of geraniums and 13 different kinds of tomato plants. The money they raise will be used to buy supplies for the greenhouse.
May 29 Relay for Life: Holliston Team "Cookin' Up a Cure" is hosting a Shop & Pamper Extravaganza 6:00 pm 9:00 pm @ Holliston VFW, 310 Woodland Street. Hopkinton’s own Nancy Bailey will be one of the vendors selling her artwork. All proceeds to benefit The American Cancer Society. Society’s Second Annual Relay For Life of Hopkinton. 6:00 p.m., Friday, May
30, – 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 31 at Hopkinton High School, 90 Hayden Rowe
Street, Hopkinton, MA. Event will be held rain or shine. The American Cancer
Society Relay For Life of Hopkinton. Some 700 walkers from the Hopkinton
community are expecting to raise $125,000 to support American Cancer Society
programs of research, education, advocacy, and patient services. Relay For
Life is a team event where participants run or walk around a track in
relay-style shifts to celebrate the hope that cancer will be beaten. Team
members take turns circling the track throughout the day and night, enjoying
great food, entertainment, and camaraderie as they camp out and cheer one
