January 2 Calling all Hiller Ice Hockey Alumni! The Friends of Hiller Hockey will be hosting the annual hockey alumni game on Friday, January 2, 2009 at Navin Ice Arena at 8 p.m. All alumni are welcome to attend. Contact preite@comcast.net for more information.

 

January 3,10,17 Boy Scout Troop 4 of Hopkinton will be providing a Christmas tree pickup and recycling service for residents of Hopkinton. The cost is $5.00 for trees under 8 feet and $10.00 for trees over 8 feet. To request a pick-up, please go to trees.troop4hopkinton.org or call (508) 293-6396 and leave your name, address, date for pick up, and tree height. Please make your request by Thursday of the week chosen for pick-up. Trees should be put curbside by 9AM along with payment in an envelope attached to the tree (Ziploc bags work best!).  Payment can be made in cash or check payable to Troop 4 Hopkinton. Please no plastic bags around the tree. Thank you for your support of Troop 4 and scouting in Hopkinton!

January 8 MetroWest YMCA presents Predators of Massachusetts 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm @ Hayes Lodge. Do you know what predators make Massachusetts their home? Do you know which ones used to live here, but no longer do? The MetroWest YMCA’s Outdoor Education Director, Cynthia Menard, will present a slide show and discussion about these fascinating animals, which live closer to us than you may think. Join us for a follow-up tracking hike on Sat. Jan. 10th from 10—12:30 when we’ll look to see how many of these animals we can find signs of! January 11 HPTA presents Hopkinton Schools Barnes & Noble Book Fair 10:00 am - 9:00 pm @ Shoppers World in Framingham. Special Events: Student Art Display (10am-6pm) and Art Reception (1pm-4pm) - featuring artwork from Center, Elmwood and Hopkinton High Schools. Elmwood Ensemble (3pm) - Student hand bell and recorder performance. (Mention Hopkinton Schools at checkout for a % of your purchase to go to schools!)

A panel of occupational therapists will discuss what they do and how parents can be part of their successes with their children. Based in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, SPEAC is made up of parents and guardians working to ensure all children with special needs are educated effectively. SPEAC believes in the worth and importance of each child’s education and strives to continually enhance the quality of Hopkinton’s special education programs. In addition to hosting workshops and education roundtables, SPEAC also annually awards scholarships to graduating students who have benefited from special education or related services and are pursuing higher education. January 16-18 ESL presents Willy Wonka Junior January 16 & 17 at 7:00 pm and January 17 & 18 at 2:00 pm @ Hopkinton Middle School. Directed by Mary Scarlata-Rowe and Jodi Palmieri. An all-youth cast production. Tickets: $10 general admission, special back stage pass for matinee performance $5. Come back stage and see the magic of Willy Wonka's factory. Meet Willy in person!

January 17  Junior Hiller Night” will be held at 7:00 pm at the home game against Dover/Sherborn at Navin Ice Rink. Students wearing their Demons or Middle School Jerseys will be given free admission. Players will be invited after the game for refreshments and meet with coaches and captains to learn what it takes to be a Hiller.

January 24 HPTA presents A Karaoke Dance Party for K-5th graders 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm @ Hopkins School Cafeteria. Sing and dance to your favorite current pop or rock music!! Come dressed, if you want, as a pop star, diva or rock star!! Pizza, snacks, drinks and desserts will be sold. Entrance fee of $5 per child with adults free. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Last year there were more people who wanted to sing than there was time to sing.
