Called A Taste of Judaism: Are You Curious?, the course, which is free and open to the public, is a three-session program sponsored and prepared by the Reform Jewish Outreach of the Union for Reform Judaism. According to Joyce Schwartz, Outreach Program Coordinator for the UJF, “As is indicated by the name, the course is designed to show people what is ‘delicious’ about Judaism; our faith, our customs and our community, adding that the course is geared for adults who would like to explore Reform Judaism's relevance in today's world. “In addition,” she continued, “the course is also good for students who would like to learn about Jewish perspectives on topics of spirituality, ethics and community.” Rabbi Milder, who is teaching the course as part of the congregation's 2009 Adult Educational Series, pointed out, that course content is not dependent upon any previous knowledge of Judaism. He added, “Unaffiliated Jews, interfaith couples, in-laws of Jews, as well as individuals from other religious backgrounds, will find this course a good beginning. “In the class, free and lively discussion of Judaism’s approach to living in our rapidly changing society is encouraged,” he concluded. Although there is no enrollment fee to take the course, registration is necessary by contacting Congregation B’nai Shalom at 508-366-7191.

Is He Real or Not?, a short narrative film, focuses on one little girl’s thought processes after hearing that Santa’s not real, and makes us question our beliefs in Santa and in life.   After witnessing an argument between the neighborhood bully and another child on the school bus, nine-year-old Erin starts to wonder if what she heard was true.  Could her parents have been lying to her all this time?  What about the Easter Bunny, Cupid, Leprechauns, and the Tooth Fairy?  After investigating and thinking about it, Erin makes her decision. Is He Real or Not?was filmed in December 2008/January 2009 in Hopkinton, MA, and Shrewsbury, MA, with local actors from Hopkinton and the surrounding area. The film contains original music from Hopkinton resident, Barbara Kessler.  The completed film is planned to be entered into multiple U.S. and international film festivals in 2009. Milder, “To say that she is famous doesn’t quite express the impact that Ms. Diamant has had on Jewish life." Describing her as a “champion of egalitarian values and a shaper of contemporary Jewish practice,” he said she will be speaking on the topic of “American Judaism: What has Changed, and Where We are Going.” She is best known for her best seller, “The Red Tent,” a novel that tells the story of the Biblical Dinah as it might have been told had Genesis been a matriarchal narrative. A prolific writer, she is a former columnist for the Boston Globe and has written about a number of areas of contemporary Jewish practice. She turned to writing about “how to live Judaism without the assumptions of Orthodoxy,” and created an entirely new genre: guidebooks to Jewish life that spoke the language of a creative encounter with tradition.
