Last
spring Governor Deval Patrick signed legislation intended to prevent
bullying in schools across our state. The legislation requires each district
to submit a Bullying Prevention and Intervention Plan to the Department of
Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) by the end of December. The
district has convened a committee composed of staff members, parents,
students, and community members to create this plan. To create a plan that
accurately reflects Hopkinton’s context and needs, we need to know the
perspectives of a cross section of staff members, parents, students, and

November 9: SPEAC/HPTA - Balanced Literacy 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM Middle School Lecture Hall* Dr. Carriero King is working with Hopkinton as a result of the American Recovery and Rehabilitation Act grant, written by the Hopkinton Special Education Department. Dr. Carreiro King will discuss the concept of Balanced Literacy and how it is being used in Hopkinton for grades K-8. Hopkinton Middle School Auditorium The Hopkinton High School Drama Ensemble will perform Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat the popular musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice at the Hopkinton Middle School Auditorium November 12th, 13th and 14th. This popular, family-friendly musical retells the biblical story of “the coat of many colors” featuring favored son, Joseph, and his eleven jealous brothers. The talented cast of high school students plus a young children’s chorus brings the story to life through a constant array of energetic songs, humor and dancing. Tickets are $ 10 each; $8 for students and senior citizens. The show will be performed at the Hopkinton Middle School Auditorium on Friday, November 12 at 7:30pm; Saturday, November 13 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm and Sunday, November 14 at 2:00pm. November 6 - 13: Once again, Hopkinton’s Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts will be helping their neighbors on Saturday, Nov. 6 and 13, through the town-wide Scouting for Food campaign. Your donations of non-perishable grocery items will go to the Project Just Because Food Pantry to help local residents in need.Scouts will be dropping off the Scouting for Food bags on Saturday, Nov. 6. Residents are asked to place their donated items in the bags near their mailboxes by 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13. Frequently needed items include canned meat and meals, breakfast foods for children, canned fruit, juice bottles and boxes, school snack items, paper products such as toilet paper, laundry detergent, toiletries such as shampoo and deodorant, and toothpaste and brushes. Scouts will collect the bags between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.The Scouts of the Knox Trail Council – which represents Hopkinton and 20 other communities –will mark the 22nd Anniversary of the Scouting for Food, Good Turn for America. Over 4,000 scouts and leaders will be out collecting food for local food pantries in the Metro West area. Scouts hope to surpass the 94 tons of food that was collected in 2009 and collect 100 tons this year, in honor of 100 years of Scouting.Food Pantry Directors throughout the Metro West have said that they depend on the Food collected each year by Scouts, Parents, and Leaders in the annual Scouting for Food Drive.The Scouts and Scouters of the Knox Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America have collected over 1,600 tons of food in the past 20 years. Please support the 2010 Scouting for Food drive in November by putting your filled bags out for a Scout to Collect! November 15: Winter Parking Ban The DPW wishes to remind all Hopkinton residents of By-Laws pertaining to the parking of motor vehicles during the winter months.
Traffic Rules and Orders, Town of Hopkinton, Article lV, Section 8 “It shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle, other than for an emergency, to park said vehicle on any street between the hours of 1:00am to 6:00am from November 15 through April 1.
Article X, Section 1 By-Laws Town of Hopkinton The Highway Manager, for the purpose of removing or plowing snow, or removing the ice from any way shall be authorized to remove or cause to be removed to some convenient place, including in such term a public garage, any vehicle interfering with such work. The owner of any vehicle so removed shall be liable for the cost of such removal, and for the storage charges, if any, resulting therefrom. The Highway Manager, whenever any vehicle is so removed, shall notify the Police Department and said Department shall render all necessary assistance to the Highway Manager in enforcing this by-law.
Article 3 No person shall pile, push, throw, shovel, plow or by any other method or means cause snow to be deposited or placed on any public roadway or sidewalk of the Town so as to impede, obstruct or interrupt or otherwise adversely affect the unrestricted flow of traffic or the safe travel of any pedestrian on such roadway or sidewalk. The foregoing sentence shall not apply to any person in the employ of the Town, or in the employ of an independent contractor, which has been hired by the Town for the purpose of snow removal. Whoever violates this section shall be liable to a penalty not exceeding twenty-five dollars for each such violation. Each instance of such conduct shall constitute a separate violation of this By-Law.
