Girls Track Team beats Holliston

by Linda Clancy

On Saturday, January 9, 2009, the Hiller Girl Track Team defeated previously undefeated Holliston 60.5 – 25.5. The Girls continue to dominate the Tri-Valley League.

The Girls had many exciting performances and many personal records (PR) were set. Sam Prescott (7.4), Kelly O’Connor (7.6) and Kaelynn Maloney (7.6), gave the meet a great start capturing 1st, 2nd and a tie for 3rd place in the hurdles. Jenny Curly (6.1) and Sheena Dupuy (6.2) took 2nd and 3rd place in the dash for Hopkinton. Kellie Lodge (12.18.5) and Rececca Govoni (12:47.5) finished 1st and 2nd in the 2 mile run.

Kim Bolick ran a blistering 1:43 in the 600m race to take 1st and record the fastest 600m time in the league this year. Tam Mills (1:49.4) and Devin Dourney (1:52.3) took 2nd and 3rd giving Hopkinton a sweep in the 600m race. In the 300m Emily Jarvis place 3rd in 46.8. Cecily Boyce (5’0) won the high jump with Jen Lynds (4’8) tieing for 2nd place.

Hopkinton swept the 1000m race. Haley Anderson (3:27.5), Leah Holmes (3:28.3) and Andrea Gendron (3:28.9) scored 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Mills fresh off her second place finish in the 600m went on to run a very fast mile winning in 5:45.4.

Boyce (29’9.5) and Sam Oleson (29’2.75) took 2nd and 3rd in the shot put.

The girls ended the day with an incredibly exciting 4x4 relay. The team of Lynds, Emily Jarvis, Dana Cavedon and Bolick edge the Holliston team by .2 seconds. The final relay times were Hopkinton 4:30.1 to Holliston 4:30.3.

Coach Hall couldn't have been prouder of the girls’ efforts. "We had so many personal bests today in most every event and huge improvement in non-scoring athletes as well.

The girls are trying to convince me that their Friday pasta/dance party was the reason and I guess it’s hard to argue given what they did today."

Next stop for the Girls is the State Coaches Indoor Relays – Division 3 held Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
