The Town
Hopkinton,
Massachusetts is most well known as being the host to the Start
Line of the Boston Athletic Association's 26.2 mile Boston
Marathon, which ends on Boylston Street in Boston at the
Prudential building.
The theme of the Marathon has
come to pervade the community spirit, where runners abound and
marathon-related activities take over the public consciousness
soon after the start of each new year, until the morning of
Patriots Day, when the starter's pistol is fired.
The
Town of 14,500 people is largely a bedroom community where
residents bear a large burden of real estate taxes due to a
minimum of industrial/commercial growth. It is the home of
world-renown EMC Corporation, a maker of computer storage
devices and enterprise software solutions, as well as Caliper
Life Sciences, a world-wide leader in equipment for cures of
human diseases.
