Man Arraigned On Charges Of Poisoning, Strangling Girlfriend

BOSTON- A Malden man has been arrested and arraigned for attempted murder, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.

Wilbert Gabriel, 35, of Malden, was arraigned bedside at Massachusetts General Hospital early this afternoon on the charge of attempted murder.

Malden District Court Judge Lee Johnson ordered Gabriel held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Monday, August 16 at 10am.

According to authorities, a 911 call was received on July 25 from a neighbor who said she heard a woman screaming in the apartment building located at 68 Washington Street in Malden.

Malden PD responded to the scene and found the defendant vomiting blood in the hallway of the building.  The female victim, 30, was located within her apartment suffering similar symptoms and stated to authorities that her boyfriend had poisoned her.

The defendant and the victim were transported to the hospital where they remain hospitalized for their injuries.  The victim is now in good condition.

Upon further investigation, it was determined that the defendant allegedly attempted to murder the victim by strangling and poisoning her after she told him that she was ending their relationship.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The Assistant District Attorney who handled today’s arraignment is Ryan Sullivan.  The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Keeley. The victim witness advocate is Danielle DeMeo.
