Man Indicted For Murder In Connection To Death Of Infant Son

WOBURN– June 11, 2010 — A Malden man has been indicted in connection with the death of his infant son, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.

Geoffrey Wilson, 31, was indicted yesterday by a Middlesex Grand Jury on charges of first degree murder.

He will be arraigned in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn on June 24 at 9 a.m.

“We allege that the defendant’s violent actions caused the death of his helpless, infant son,” District Attorney Leone said.  “This office speaks on behalf of victims without voices, including our most vulnerable victims, children, and we will continue to fight for justice on their behalf.”

According to authorities, the child was in the father’s care in their home in Malden on Sunday, March 7.  When the child’s mother returned to the home, the child was unresponsive and in obvious distress and was eventually transported to Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office (ME) conducted an autopsy on the victim. The ME has ruled the manner of death homicide and the cause of death hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy complicating blunt/shaking injuries of head.

These charges are allegations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to the case is Assistant District Attorney Katharine Folger, Chief of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Child Abuse Unit.

The Family Protection Bureau was established by District Attorney Gerry Leone after he took office in 2007 and includes the Child Abuse Unit, Domestic Violence Unit and the Elder/Disabled Abuse Unit.  The Bureau serves the needs of the children and families in Middlesex County by coordinating overlapping abuse areas among the Units within the Bureau, and working outside the office with the myriad service agencies who help serve and protect vulnerable victim populations. The Child Abuse Unit in particular, works in connection with the Middlesex Children’s Advocacy Center and is dedicated to preventing crime through education and training, as well as enforcement of the laws through investigation and prosecution of crimes of abuse against children.
