DOC EMPLOYEE ACCUSED OF STEALING STATE FUNDS AND EQUIPMENT FOR HIS OWN PERSONAL USE TO BE ARRAIGNED

August 5, 2010 —  Tomorrow,  Thursday, August 6, 2010  at 9:00 a.m. in Brockton Superior Court , Gary Mendes, age 50, of Berkley, a lieutenant in the Special Operations Division of the Department of Correction (DOC) will be arraigned for allegedly using his position as DOC purchasing agent and state Public Safety Procurement Management Team member to develop a relationship with a state vendor for his own financial gain.  On June 25, 2010, a Plymouth County Grand Jury returned indictments against Mendes on charges of Conflict of Interest-Financial Interest, Conflict of Interest-Gratuities, Procurement Fraud (2 counts), and Larceny Over $250 (3 counts).
