66 Year-Old Hopkinton Man Charged With Enticing a Minor
Worcester, MA (August 20, 2010) - On 08-20-10, Worcester Police Detective Sergeant Vincent Gorgoglione and Detective Mark Tivnan arrested 66 year-old George Scandalis of 8 Schofield Road, Hopkinton, MA. He was charged with Indecent A+B on a Person 14 and Over and Enticing a Minor (Under 16). At the time of his arrest he believed that he was meeting a 14 year-old male. He was met instead by police. Scandalis was taken into custody without incident.
The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on Park Avenue in Worcester on 08-10-10 involving a 14 year-old juvenile male. The victim alleged that he was walking on Park Avenue when he was approached by an older white male in a newer model SUV. The male asked if he could borrow the child's cell phone for a personal emergency. The child agreed and the suspect male then invited the child into the car. Once the child was inside of the SUV, the suspect used the child's phone to send a text message. The child was then indecently assaulted by the older male.
The child was allowed to leave the car with his phone. After the incident, the suspect male then continued to contact the victim via telephone text messages with invitations for sex. The boy then informed his parents who then contacted police. Detective Tivnan took possession of the boy's cell phone and continued to receive additional text correspondence from Mr. Scandalis. Detective Tivnan then set up the meeting with Scandalis.
Mr. Scandalis will be arraigned at the
Worcester County District Courthouse on Monday, August 23, 2010. |
