Scituate Man Arraigned On Indecent Assault And Battery Charges Following Assault On MBTA Train

MEDFORD– A Scituate man has been arraigned in connection to an indecent assault and battery incident that took place on a MBTA train in Cambridge earlier this week, Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone informed the public today.

Joseph Joyce, 27, of Scituate, was arraigned in Cambridge District Court on one count of indecent assault and battery. Cambridge District Court Judge Benjamin Barnes held Joyce on $1,000 cash bail with the conditions that he has no contact with the victim or any witnesses.

His next court date is August 20 for a pre-trial conference.

According to authorities, on July 7, the defendant was riding a MBTA train on the red line when it stopped at Kendall Station. As the train doors were about to close, the defendant allegedly stood up and approached two 16 year old females. The defendant allegedly pulled one of the girl’s t-shirts down in the front and touched her breast. The defendant then left the train.

The victim contacted Transit Police and reported the incident. The Transit Police were able to obtain surveillance images of the defendant and distributed them to the local media.

The defendant turned himself into police custody last night.

These charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The prosecutor assigned to this case is Assistant District Attorney Samir Zaganjori. The victim witness advocate is Katie Michaud.
