Dave McGillvray book signing

On Thursday, March 22, 2007, many Hopkinton community groups will come together to participate in a new event sponsored by the Hopkinton Public Library.  The Library will be sponsoring a presentation and book signing by Dave McGillvray, author of ‘The Last Pick’, and Race Director of the Boston Marathon.  The event will be held at the Hopkinton High School Auditorium.  Current and historical Marathon paraphernalia will be on display at the event.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m.

At age 23, Mr. McGillvray ran 3,452 miles across the United States to raise money for cancer research.  He has completed 115 marathons, including the Boston Marathon.  He will give a motivational presentation, and will be available afterward for questions and a book signing.

Several community groups have committed to support this unique opportunity offered by the Hopkinton Public Library.  The Garden Club, Marathon Quilters, Woman’s Club, and Friends of the Library will all be present to participate in this community celebration.  Artwork by local talents Nancy Bailey and Mike Alfano will be on display.  The Hopkinton Athletic Association, Downtown Revitalization Committee, Hopkinton Runners Club, and Marathon Committee are assisting with publicity and production of flyers and posters.  The High School Boosters will open their store at the High School during the event. The Cultural Arts Alliance, Women’s Art Forum, and Hopkinton PTA are offering advertising and organizational support.  The HPTA will also display several Marathon related items featured in its upcoming 24th Annual Silent Auction.  There will be a quilt made of Marathon t-shirts, and a priceless and exclusive raffle package including tickets to the Marathon events at Elmwood School; tickets and a limo to the start line and finish line of the Marathon; tickets to a VIP brunch sponsored by John Hancock; a library of autographed Marathon books; and more – all donated by the Marathon Committee, HAA, BAA, and Able Limo.

Come and celebrate the Magic of the Marathon.  This program is free and open to the public.
