Joseph M. McGrath Jr., 59

Joseph M. McGrath Jr., 59, of Holliston, died Thursday, May 8, 2008 at his home with his family after a lengthy, bravely fought battle with cancer.   Born in Boston, he was the son of Joseph McGrath Sr. of Natick and the late Helen (Daly) McGrath of Natick. He was the beloved husband to Diane (Colella) McGrath for 29 years.

He was a Vietnam veteran, having served four years in the U.S. Navy. He was also in the Navy reserves for 6 years and had been employed for the past 33 years at the Army Natick Labs. During his career at Natick, his leadership and technical capabilities have been recognized with numerous awards. He was most recently project manager and technical leader of a guided airdrop delivery system that can bring supplies to the soldier on the ground with such precision, that the ground and air personnel are placed in far less vulnerable positions. This program was recently fielded to Afghanistan and Iraq. He was also an avid scuba diver and member and past president of the Metrowest Dive Club. He was the founder of Highland Millwork, one of the largest manufacturers of scuba tank bands. His boundless intelligence and curiosity was admired and served as an inspiration to many.

Besides his father and wife, he is survived by his brother, James McGrath and his wife Maureen of Holliston, a sister, Mary Garry and her husband Peter of Upton, a nephew Joseph McGrath and a niece Anne McGrath of Holliston.

Pamela M. Davis, 82, of Hopkinton, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Leo LaChance Nursing Home in Gardner, MA. Born in England, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Edith (Barlow) Martlin. She was the wife of James L. Davis of Hopkinton.

A Hopkinton resident for over 50 years, she worked at the Hopkinton Public Library.

Besides her husband James, she leaves 1 daughter, Melanie M. Noonan and her husband Joseph of Gardner, MA., 1 brother, Edmund Martlin of Virginia Beach, 1 sister, Barbara Howard of Maine, and 3 grandchildren, Meghann, Joey and Kristina.

A graveside service will take place on Monday, May 12, at 12:00p.m. at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Hopkinton. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton.

Hazel Wheeler

DANVERS - Hazel Dalrymple Wheeler, 71, of Danvers, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Born in Framingham on September 3, 1936, she was the daughter of the late James and Florence (Johnson) Dalrymple.

She was raised and educated in Hopkinton and was a graduate of Hopkinton High School and Framingham State Teachers College. Hazel was a loving mother and partner who enjoyed spending time with her family, ocean kayaking, reading and traveling.

She is survived by her partner, Fred Menschel of Danvers; four children, Bruce Wheeler of Chelmsford, Scott Wheeler of Newport, R.I., Mark Wheeler of Chelmsford, and Lynne Swanson of Carlisle; four grandchildren, and two brothers, James Dalrymple of Westerville, Ohio and Charles Carlstrom of Dennis. She was the wife of the late John D. Wheeler.

Funeral Services are private and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Hopkinton.

Rita F. Eisner, 91

HOPKINTON - Rita F. Eisner, 91, died at her home Thursday, April 30,
2008. She was the wife of the late Fred J. Eisner. Born in Newton, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Hartwell) Horan. She was a foster mother and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her children Christine Cavanaugh and her husband William of Hopkinton, James and his wife Penney and John Riley and his wife Mary Ann of Hudson, and Frederick and his wife Eileen of Daytona,
FL. She also leaves her sister, Patricia Anderson of VA, and 16 grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Monday, May 5 at 9:00 a.m. from the Callanan-Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be May 31, 2008 at 10:a.m. in Village Cemetery, Bartlett, NH. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, May 4 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Florence R. Stewart, 78

HOPKINTON - Florence R. Stewart, 78, of Hopkinton, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Bolton Manor in Marlborough. Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late Vernon and Mary (Bigelow) Rice. She was the wife of Arthur P.
Stewart who passed away in 2002.

A lifelong Woodville resident, she was a member of and very active in the Woodville Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was involved in the food pantry and was very active and enjoyed caring and the upbringing of her grandchildren.

She is survived by 4 sons, David, John and his wife Susan, Andrew and his wife Peggy, and James and his wife Janet, and 1 daughter, Cynthia Capobianco and her husband Joseph. She also leaves behind 1 brother, Wendel Rice of FL., 1 sister Dorothy Pickard of South Carolina, 10 grandchildren, Daniel, Nichole, James, Brian, Jenna, Meghan, Jonathan, Raymond, Joel, and Anna, sister in law Dorenda Rice of Woodville, and Florence's late husbands brother and sister Dick Stewart and Janet Stewart. She is predeceased by 1 brother, Alden Rice.

Russell E. Adams, 72 HOPKINTON - Russell E. Adams, 72, a lifelong resident of Hopkinton, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Framingham Union Hospital. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Edgar and Sarah (Carlstrom) Adams. After graduating Hopkinton High School in 1953, he went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston. He was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers from 1958 to 1961 in Korea and Fort Belvoi, Virginia.

While working for Bowl-Mor Company, he traveled to Japan, the Philippines, Australia, and Hong Kong where he met his bride-to-be, Liem Lan Yieng. They married in Hong Kong in 1965 and moved back to Hopkinton, where Lan Yieng took the name, Christine.

Russell worked for the Draper division of Rockwell International Corporation from 1966 to 1968. He spent the rest of his professional career as a Senior Engineer and Engineering Manager at Dennison Manufacturing Company, and later Avery Dennison in Framingham from 1968 to 1997. After retiring, he worked part time for his son, Roger, at Saddle Hill Country Club in Hopkinton, and more recently, at Highfields Golf & Country Club in Grafton.

Besides his loving wife, Christine of 42 years, he leaves his two sons and their families; Carl, Maura, Gabriel, and Carly Adams, of Hopkinton, and Roger, Sue, Jack, and Cooper Adams of Sutton. He is also survived by his sister, Mildred Kessler, of Yarmouthport.

At the request of the family, a private service is being held. A celebration of his life
is being planned at Highfields Golf & Country Club in the coming weeks pending completion of construction of the clubhouse.

Mark R. Kelley, 44

HOPKINTON - Mark R. Kelley, 44,  died unexpectedly Saturday, April 12, 2008 in Milford.  Born in Natick, he was the son of the late Philip and Helen (Foster) Kelley.  He was a 1982 graduate of Hopkinton High School.  He worked as a self-employed house framer and carpenter in the Hopkinton area.  
 
He leaves five children, Kayla, Derek, Erynne, Zachary and Haley, all of Hopkinton, and his sister Kim Jefferson and her husband Daniel of Shrewsbury.  He also leaves his former wife, Jennifer (Hughes) Kelley of Milford, a close friend, Kelly Marino of Hopkinton, and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. 
 
Calling hours at the Callanan-Cronin  Funeral Home, 34 Church Street, will be held Wednesday, April 16 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family.

Perry Fitzpatrick, 72

 BLUFFTON. S.C. Perry Fitzpatrick died at his home in Sun City Hilton Head, S.C., on Saturday, April 12, 2008, after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The husband of Claudia Godsil Fitzpatrick, he was 72. Born Irving Perry Fitzpatrick, in Glen Ridge, N.J., he was the son of the late Irving Fitzpatrick Jr., and the late Elizabeth Trenbath King. Raised in Montclair, N.J., he was graduated from The Kent School, Kent, Conn., and attended Haverford College, Haverford, Pa., before enlisting in the United States Air Force.

A Korean War veteran, he served in Korea with the 58th Fighter Bomber Wing and later in Japan as a reporter with Pacific Stars and Stripes. While in the Far East, he also served as a correspondent for United Press. He returned to the United States in 1958, joining the Newark News, New Jersey, as a reporter, covering labor and politics. After brief stints on newspapers in Philadelphia and New York, Mr. Fitzpatrick went into the family food business, serving as sales and marketing director for Knickerbocker Mills Company in New York City, and subsequently, another spice and seasoning company, Archibald & Kendall Inc., also of New York. In 1974, he became president of Cross Country Enterprises Inc., a South Brunswick, N.J., based sales and marketing firm with a strong political public relations unit. He later served as sales and marketing chief of a NYSE listed food company and as president of a Boston-based food ingredient company, and as president of a food brokerage firm.

He returned to his first love the newspaper business in 1992, joining Bentley Publications in Massachusetts as news editor for its three weekly newspapers. When the papers were later sold to Community Newspaper Company, he remained as a columnist until being forced to retire because of poor health in 1999. He continued his column until 2005 in the Hopkinton Independent.

Mr. Fitzpatrick retained a lifelong interest in politics and in civic affairs. He was proud of the fact that Cross Country Enterprises had never lost an election in which it had participated as a part of the management team. He lost the only election in which he ever ran as a candidate and later vowed to remain behind the scenes for the future. After 22 years in Massachusetts, the Fitzpatricks moved to Sun City Hilton Head, S.C., in October 2005. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sun City Veterans Assoc., the Sampson (N.Y.) AFB Veterans Assoc., Nagoya-Komaki, Japan, Air Base Alumni Assoc.; and the National Rifle Assoc.

Besides Claudia, his wife of 38 years, Mr. Fitzpatrick leaves two sons, Kevin P. of Orlando, Fla., and Sean P. (Lisa) of Hopkinton; two daughters, Karen A. (Tony) Grazia of Sherman, Conn., and Shannon L. Fitzpatrick of Southborough; four grandchildren, Grayson, Sierra, Saige and Jolie Grazia; two brothers, Robert L. of Los Angeles and David S. (Jenny) of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Carol (Denis) Commette of Mantoloking, N.J.; and a stepbrother, William A. (Liz) King of Lincoln Burial services will be held at the convenience of the family in Old Saybrook, Conn.

ASHLAND - Francesco P. "Frank" Perrone, 79, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 in Natick. He was the husband of Jacqueline (Batty) Perrone, to whom he was married for 41 years.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children Marc and his wife Jeanine of Cohasset, Kahron Dieter and her husband Jeffrey of Hopkinton, and five grandchildren. He also leaves his sisters Lena Christopher of Mashpee and Gina Fanelli of Fitchburg and his brothers
Nicholas Perrone of Nevada and George Perrone of Natick.

HOPKINTON - Eleanor M. McBride, 80, died at home Sunday, April 6, 2008 after battling cancer. Married 59 years to Hopkinton native Richard M. McBride, she was soothed by family and friends at bedside. Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Marion (Flynn) MacDonald and predeceased by four brothers, John, Francis, Bobby and Paul MacDonald.

Ellie attended Framingham High School, and graduated from Framingham Union School of Nursing in 1948. After raising five children, she worked at St. Patrick's Manor in Framingham for nearly 30 years. An avid reader and gardener, she was known for her quick, but quiet, wit.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Kathleen Bryant and husband James of Hopkinton; Mary Flynn and husband Joseph of Wayland; Janet Moss and husband Thomas of Upton; Nancy McBride of Ocean Park, Maine; and Patrick McBride of Boston. She also leaves her grandchildren: Matthew and Jesse Bryant; Julie Segars; Shannon, Colleen and Brian Flynn; and Margaret and Christian Moss. She delighted in the company of her great grandchildren Abigail, Aidan and Owen. She is survived by her sister Rita (MacDonald) Connelly and husband Ted, of Brimfield IL.

The funeral will be held Thursday, April 10 at 9:00 a.m. at the Callanan-Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street, Hopkinton with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Jean Rousseau, 77, of Hopkinton died peacefully at the MetroWest Medical Center after fighting a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). She would have celebrated her 78th birthday on April 9th.

Jean is survived by her loving husband Fred of fifty five years. She is also survived by two daughters and their husbands, Michelle and Tom Fillingim of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, Denise and Bill Stickney along with their three children, Christopher, Emily and Jonathan all of Hopkinton and several loving granddogs. She also leaves one sister, Charlotte Pescosolido and her husband Joe of Marshfield. Jean is predeceased by a brother Dominic. Besides her immediate family, Jean leaves behind many wonderful and caring sisters-in-laws, brother-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jean grew up in Wayland, the daughter of Dominic and Emily (LaRoque) Anzivino and graduated from Natick High School. After marrying, Jean and
Fred lived in Framingham before moving to Hopkinton. Jean and Fred founded the Golden Spoon Coffee Shoppe in Hopkinton in the early 1980s, where you would find her on most days until she retired.

Jean took great pride in her children and grandchildren. Being a sports enthusiast, her greatest joy was watching her grandsons, Chris and Jon, play high school sports, nothing would keep her away. She especially treasured her granddaughter Emily, who blessed her with her companionship, compassion and great sense of humor.

UPTON - Dorothy F. Hodgdon, 71, died Tuesday March 11, 2008 in Framingham. She was the wife of George Hodgdon, to whom she was married for 52 years.

Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late James and Louise (Driscoll) Gorman. She was employed for many years as a nurse's aid and had lived in Hopkinton for over 40 years.

In addition to her husband, she also leaves her children Deborah Pierce and husband Richard Jr. of Douglas, Darlene Gormally and husband Thomas of Southbridge and George "Lennie" Hodgdon Jr. of Upton. She also leaves her brothers James and wife Ann of FL and Raymond and Kathleen Schilowski of Milford, and her sisters Sheila Morey and husband Bob of Hopkinton and Sharon Flannery and husband David of Northborough. In addition, she leaves six grandchildren.

HOPKINTON – Mary B. “Bunnie” Nealon, 89, of Hopkinton passed away at St.
Patrick’s Manor, in Framingham on Monday, March 10, 2008, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late Robert T. Nealon, former Hopkinton Town Counsel and Town Clerk, who died in 1971.

A lifelong resident of Hopkinton, Mrs. Nealon was born in 1918, one of three children to the late Joseph F. and Anna Clinton Sullivan and the sister of the late Joseph Sullivan and the late Claire Sullivan.

She was a 1936 graduate of Hopkinton High School and a 1940 graduate of Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts. She enjoyed a rewarding and fulfilling career as a teacher and guidance counselor to many students in the Hopkinton school system for many years until her retirement in 1981.

In addition to her career in the Hopkinton school system, Bunnie served as the Town Clerk in Hopkinton from 1971 to 1997, having succeeded her husband, Robert T. Nealon who was the Town Clerk from 1951 to 1971.

Bunnie is survived by her eight children, Robert T. Nealon and his wife Roberta of Pocasset, J. Timothy Nealon and his wife Jeanne, of West Dennis, Ann Click of Hopkinton, Pamela Langenbach and her husband James of Mystic, Connecticut, M. Kathleen Nealon of Sagamore, Elizabeth Edwards and her husband Ralph, of Hopkinton, Thomas P. Nealon and his wife Anne, of Hopkinton, and John A. Nealon and his wife Lorraine, of  Ashland.

During her lifetime, Bunnie was a dear friend and colleague to many. She had a lifelong affection for and connection to Cape Cod which she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader, a loyal sports fan of Holy Cross, Boston College and all the Boston sports teams and was a student of state and national politics.

Bunnie took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly and will miss her immensely.

Besides her children, Bunnie was survived by twenty-three grandchildren, Robert T. Nealon, III, Joseph E. Nealon, Jon P. Nealon, Christian D. Nealon, Timothy P. Nealon, Elizabeth N. Ridgley, Kelley A. Petralia, Thomas M. Click, David M. Click, Pamela Ann Settar, Amie L. Edwards, Kathleen K. Langenbach, Bethany M. Langenbach, Peter M. Edwards, Stephen J. Edwards, Matthew C. Nealon, Patrick S. Nealon, Callie H. Nealon, Andrew H. Nealon, Jack C. Nealon and Mary Catherine W. Nealon, Christopher R. Nealon and Jeffrey A. Nealon, all who affectionately called her “Gramma”. Bunnie was also survived by twenty-three great
grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. from the Callanan-Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street, followed by a funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Katherine (Soter) Argir, 94, a resident of Natick for 72 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Bethany Healthcare Center in Framingham surrounded by her children.

Born in Gjanci, Albania, she was the loving daughter of the late Dimitri and Arthemi (Nikola) Soter. Katherine emigrated from Albania when she was 6 years old and was raised in Worcester, Massachusetts.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles “Koci” Argir for 37 years until he passed away in 1971.

Katherine worked for Horne & Short Shoe Company of Natick when she first moved to Natick, and then Dennison Manufacturing Company for 30 years in Framingham until her retirement in 1975.

Katherine is lovingly remembered by her family and friends as a person they could always go to when they needed advice, support, or understanding. She was a trusted confidant who always had time for others in need and would never judge you. She always believed in trying to focus on the good in people. People were drawn to her because of her kind, generous spirit and terrific sense of humor. Everyone knew her door was always open and she would welcome you with her endearing smile and a big hug and kiss. Katherine is also remembered for being a wonderful cook, who loved spending time in her kitchen baking and cooking Albanian breads, pastries, and meals. She enjoyed looking at cookbooks and watching cooking shows in order to learn new things to make.

Katherine enjoyed spending time with her friends going to stores, lunch and church, and would often be seen driving around Natick in the passenger seat of her dear friend, Olga’s, blue mustang on their way to visit friends or go to lunch. One of their favorite places to go was to MacDonald’s on Route 9 in Natick to socialize and people watch. She loved visiting with people, and even in her later years when she was not as mobile and in pain when she walked, she never complained and always maintained her sunny disposition.

Katherine was an active member of the Albanian Orthodox Church in Natick and its women’s society “Vetetima”. She had a great faith in God and her church was an important part of her life.

Katherine’s greatest pride was her family who loved and adored her. She made every member feel special and so loved. Her happiest times were spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who she saw on a daily basis.

Katherine is survived by her sister, Violet Assad of Shrewsbury; her brother, Michael Soter of Shrewsbury; her children James and Lana Argir of Harwich, Thomas and Arlene Argir of Framingham, and Linda and Thomas Lloyd of Natick; her grandchildren, Jim Argir of Holliston, Michael Argir of Natick, Andrea McHugh of Holliston, David Lloyd of Hebron, NH, Scott and Mark Argir of Framingham, and great-grandchildren, Corey Argir, Brianna Argir, Garrett Argir, Averie Argir, Chase Argir, and Makayla McHugh. She was the sister of the late Mary Zhunga and Samuel Soter. Words cannot describe how much she will be missed.

A funeral to celebrate Katherine’s life will be held in the Albanian Orthodox Church of the Annunciation in Natick on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Dell Park Cemetery in Natick. HOPKINTON - Rita L. Paradis, 85, died Monday, February 25, 2008 at her home. Born in Sherborn, she was the daughter of the late William and Ella (Rock) Heaton. She was married to her husband, Alverie G. Paradis for the past 59 years.

Mrs. Paradis was a registered nurse and served as a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp. She was later employed by various nursing homes in the area. She was a member of St. John's Church and for many years volunteered at the annual rummage sale. She managed the Thrift Shop at the Hopkinton Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening and watching the many birds that fed at the feeders in her yard.
First and foremost, she enjoyed her large family.

In addition to her husband, she leaves her daughters Leona Montville and her husband Harold of Bellingham, Helene Matyi and her husband Frank of Franklin and Jean Tatro and her husband Al of Milford; her sons George and his wife Janet of Oakham, William and his wife Rita of Ayer, Andrewand his wife Lisa of Hudson, Joseph and his wife Laurie of Hopkinton and Philip of Oxford. She also leaves her grandchildren Jennifer Briggs, Christine Duggan, Philip Matyi, Michael and Sarah Montville, Elizabeth Raiche, Amiee Velaso, and Julie, Keri, Gregory, Tina, Dylan and Daniel Paradis. In addition, she leaves eight great grandchildren.

She is pre-deceased by her son Michael who died in March 1972, and her siblings Conrad Heaton and Pauline Tomasetti.

The funeral will be held Saturday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m. from the Callanan-Cronin Funeral Home, 34 Church Street with a funeral Mass in
St. John the Evangelist Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. John's cemetery at a later date. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, February 29 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Hopkinton — Evelyn (Etsell) Cahill, 84, of Mayhew Street died February 15, 2008 at Umass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester from complications of a stroke.

She leaves her husband of 50 years, Irving Campbell Cahill; a daughter Sue and husband Jim Gosnell of Sutton; three granddaughters Kristin, Heather and Rachael also of Sutton; 2 sisters, Martha E. Hall of Lakeville; Thelma Long of Hingham and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by four siblings; Edna Alice MacDonald of Melrose, Marion Florence Baier of Rhode Island, Elsie Marie Christenson of Melrose, William Everett Etsell of Florida.

Evelyn was born in Melrose on January 25, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie Elizabeth (Rolls) Etsell.

Prior to raising a family, she worked in Boston at the Boston Five Cents Savings Bank in the mortgage department.

In accordance with her wishes, a private graveside service is planned at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Hopkinton. Arrangements are from Chesmore Funeral Home in Hopkinton.
